Experienced, passionate, creative and talented. The perfect combination for the perfect staff. That's who we are at GOLD + ARROW.
Gold+Arrow’s owner and stylist, Gretchen Hotz began her career in 1998. Her studies have taken her around the world, training at Bumble and Bumble University, Goldwell Color Academy, Wella Academy, Jamieson Shaw and Vidal Sassoon in London.
Her eye for design, love of couture and free spirit inspire her work with hairstyles that flow with movement, shape and dimension.
Working with clients such as Transworld Snowboarding, Freeze and People Magazine, Gretchen says, “Editorial work takes me out of the salon and triggers a whole new creative palette; allowing me to bring new energy and ideas back to Gold+Arrow.”
Drawing inspiration and creativity from her love of fashion, music and nature, Rachel has worked magic on client’s hair from coast to coast. And now she is calling Gold + Arrow home (lucky for us).
Rachel continues her pursuit to master her craft. Starting with her early days at Paul Mitchell in San Francisco followed by an apprenticeship at Oxenrose salon, she furthered her education with Vidal Sassoon, DiPietro Todd, Bumble and Bumble styling, and gained her certifications in Brazilian blowouts, and balayage. Though she is serious about hair, her infectious laugh and easy-going personality make a session in her chair an experience to look forward to.
Lana has been obsessed with color since she was five years old. She saw a punky teenager with Kool-Aid colored hair and was hooked ever since.
Born and raised in the Northwest, Lana started her career by moving to Los Angeles to attend the world-renowned Vidal Sassoon Academy. Because her true passion lay in color, Lana chose to become a color specialist to master the craft. She went on to work as a color specialist in Sassoon Salon San Francisco and then as a full-time color educator and platform artist for Vidal Sassoon Academy in Los Angeles.
Missing the Northwest, the one-on-one connection with clients and the ability to wear sweaters and jackets year-round, Lana now resides in Portland. She's ecstatic to be at Gold + Arrow where she can focus her talents on providing each client the perfect tailored, effortless and individualized haircolor.
Always striving to perfect her craft, Lana regularly takes advanced color education classes as well as continues to teach as a balayage educator.
Although an Oregon native, Katie found her love of hair in Los Angeles while attending Paul Mitchell in Costa Mesa, working LA's Fashion Week, and assisting Takashi, the platform artist and creative director for John Paul Mitchell Systems. Her fascination with the art and science behind hairdressing has led her through advanced courses in Goldwell, Redken, Paul Mitchell, Bumble&Bumble, and Kerastase and has given her expert education in determining the best hair for her client's personal and lifestyle needs.
As a true wanderlust, outside of the salon Katie can be found chasing waterfalls (sorry TLC) and exploring every corner of the Pacific Northwest, but sometimes she just can't resist a day spent at home cuddling with her cats Jason and Cupcake or crafting dreamcatchers.
To Katie, Gloria Steinem's famous quote "Dreaming after all, is a form of planning" rings true, and she strives to give clients not only the hair they've always dreamed of through careful consultation and refined skill, but her infectious laugh and personality will solidify that you've officially found "the one".
In the age when MTV played music videos and the Style Network aired round the clock runway shows, MJ realized her love for art in fashion form. She found a common cord that played throughout print, runway, and moved the fashion industry - hair and makeup.
Joining the hair industry in 2004, MJ has refined her skills with workshops from from Robert Cromeans, Angus Mitchell, Howard McLaren, Masaki, Great Lengths Extensions, and local educators alike. Traveling to Bumble and Bumble's University in Manhattan, NY has remained a favorite for renewing skills, passion, and focus. Staying trye to her love of obscurities, she collects inspiration from Alexander McQueen's dark sartorial stories, the crispness & edge of a Tom Ford campaign, and the ruggedness of "everyday people" - a.k.a. street style.
Former Artistic Director, Bumble and Bumble Network Educator and salon owner in Southern Oregon, MJ brings 12+ years of experience to Portland, OR. Cultivating an intuitive approach to hair, she specializes in Japanese dry cuts, razor cutting, and freehand color. Always an advocate to longer lengths, short coiffures and men's styling allow her to push creative limits. Hair should instill a sense of self assurance and confidence in the wearer. Through proper guidance and hair care instructions, together, you can expect to achieve your hair goals.

Wendy started her career over 10 years ago, with an apprenticeship at International Salon, Toni and Guy, in Scottsdale, Arizona, where she worked as a stylist and also an educator. After relocating to San Francisco, she then spent the next few years styling and educating at Bladerunners Hair Studio, where she established a strong clientele, directed a training program, and honed her skills with continued education from Toni and Guy, Sachajuan, and Bumble and Bumble academies in New York and Los Angeles. She specializes in cuts only and can work with any texture of hair for both men and women. She is classically trained and can do anything from a precision cut to a trendy, edgy or textured look. Softness is her trademark, but then again, so is a sharp bob or amazing bangs!
A former salon owner, Wendy helped co-create and run Dreamers and Make Believers Salon in San Francisco and more recently, she joined the team at David James Salon and Gallery in San Francisco, where she still travels to see clients periodically. Over the years, she's also served as artistic director and Bumble & Bumble educator. She believes that education, excellent communication and consistency culminate the best looks, and build the best client/stylist relationships.
Wendy draws inspiration most often from movie characters, fashion, and music. You can find her on her off time thrifting around town, listening to music, or with her family.
Growing up in Palm Springs, Brandie recognized her natural talent for hair at a young age by practicing on her cousin’s hair as well as experimenting on her own luscious locks if she thought something wasn’t just right. When she discovered Vogue at age 12, she instantly fell in love with the drama and styling of the editorials which brought her to the costume department of the San Francisco Opera. Through being on the clothing side, she again realized her inclination toward hair and made the decision to enroll in beauty school.
After apprenticing under Michelle Snyder and Marcy Harmon at the prestigious San Francisco salon Cowboys and Angels, she moved on to become head of education at Harper Paige Salon where she continues to work on her craft. Now traveling between SF and Portland, we are fortunate to have Brandie as a cutting specialist here at Gold+Arrow. With 10+ years in the industry, she has honed her skills of working with natural texture, cowlicks, head shape, and everything in-between to create a customized cut for each and every client to fit seamlessly into their lifestyle. While she gravitates towards an ‘I woke up like this’ kind of vibe, her expert talent lends to a variety of cutting styles and needs.
